| 520 | |a This volume examines the thinking, political activity and journalistic work of the liberal university lecturers Karl von Rotteck (1775-1840) and Theodor Welcker (1790-1869), two of the most important liberal political commentators of the early 19th century. Because they are both credited with publishing the 'Staats-Lexikon', the bible of the liberal movement that existed before the 1848 revolution, they are often regarded as Dioscuri even though their attitudes and opinions were markedly different at times.
