Die Belege deuten darauf hin, dass nicht nur die Gegnerporträts der Korintherkorrespondenz, sondern die paulinische Gegnerpolemik insgesamt von in der Kaiserzeit nachweisbaren Strategien beeinflusst ist, religiöse und intellektuelle Kontrahenten im Zerrbild eines Sophisten erscheinen zu lassen. | ||
| 520 | |a Making use of Beatrice Wyss’ “pattern of the disparagement of sophists” for heuristic purposes, this paper argues that the depictions of opponents in six of the undisputed letters of Paul contain literary elements of ad hominem attacks which were used in Greek anti-sophistic polemic. The evidence suggests that not only Paul’s portrayals of his Corinthian opponents, but his Gegnerpolemik in general is influenced by a strategy common among contemporary pagan authors which aims to cast religious and intellectual opponents as sophists. | ||
