Layers of the Ninevite V period, the Early Middle-Tigris III period, the Old- Babylonian time, the Mittani period, the Middle- and Neo-Assyrian and the Islamic time have been exposed. The discovery of a cuneiform archive made it possible to identify the site with the city of Mardama, a provincial capital of the Middle Assyrian Empire. 
520 |a Die Ausgrabungen in Bassetki verfolgen das Ziel, eine nordmesopotamische Stadtanlage diachronisch zu untersuchen. Bisher wurden Schichten der Ninive V-Periode, der Frühen Mittel-Tigris III Periode, der Altbabylonischen Zeit, der Mittani-Zeit, der Mittel- und Neuassyrischen sowie der Islamischen Zeit erfasst. Durch den Fund eines Tontafelarchivs konnte der Ort mit der Stadt Mardama, einer Provinzhauptstadt des mittelassyrischen Reiches identifiziert werden.
