Worldwide, the magnitude of morbidity associated with sexually transmitted chlamydial infections is enormous. C.trachomatis is a common cause of urethritis and cervicitis, and sequelae include pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ectopic pregnancy, tubal factor infertility, epididymitis, proctitis and reactive arthritis.
