Auch in der Gegenwartsphilosophie, beispielsweise in der Auseinandersetzung zwischen der von Jürgen Habermas entwickelten Diskursethik und deren neoaristotelischen sowie postmodernen Kritiken, kehren alte Fragen und Themen der Naturrechtstradition wieder. Auf dem Hintergrund des Streits um Vernunft und Geschichte, Relativismus und Letztbegründung, formale und materiale Ethik plädiert der Autor dafür, die "Vielspältigkeit" (Troeltsch) des Ethischen ernst zu nehmen. Wenn das Feld der Ethik durch eine Vielzahl präziser Verbindlichkeiten strukturiert ist, dann ist die Einsicht in die Begrenztheit der eigenen Geltungsansprüche und damit die Offenheit für Kompromissbildung unerlässlich. | ||

Ernst Troeltsch attributed constitutive importance to the teachings of natural law for the development of Christian ethics. In contemporary philosophy, too, for example in the debate between the discourse ethics developed by Jürgen Habermas and its neo-Aristotelian and postmodern critiques, old questions and themes of the natural law tradition recur. Against the background of the dispute about reason and history, relativism and ultimate justification, formal and material ethics, the author pleads for taking seriously the "Vielspältigkeit" (Troeltsch) of the ethical. If the field of ethics is structured by a multiplicity of precise liabilities, then the insight into the limitations of one's own claims to validity and thus the openness to compromise is indispensable. | ||
