Improved measurement of CP violation parameters in B0S β J/psi K+ K- decays in the vicinity of the phi (1020) resonance

| Summary: | The decay-time-dependent πΆβ’π asymmetry in π΅0π βπ½/πβ‘(βπ+β’πβ)β’πΎ+β’πΎβ decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fbβ1, collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Using a sample of approximately 349 000 π΅0π signal decays with an invariant πΎ+β’πΎβ mass in the vicinity of the πβ‘(1020) resonance, the πΆβ’π-violating phase ππ is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the π΅0π βΒ―π΅0π system, Ξβ’Ξπ , and the difference of the average π΅0π and π΅0 meson decay widths, Ξπ βΞπ. The values obtained are ππ =β0.039Β±0.022Β±0.006 rad, Ξβ’Ξπ =0.0845Β±0.0044Β±0.0024 psβ1, and Ξπ βΞπ=β0.005β’6+0.0013β0.0015Β±0.0014 psβ1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements to date and are consistent with expectations based on the Standard Model and with the previous LHCb analyses of this decay. These results are combined with previous independent LHCb measurements. The phase ππ is also measured independently for each polarization state of the πΎ+β’πΎβ system and shows no evidence for polarization dependence. |
