Important aspects include (i) the use of total neoadjuvant therapies (TNT) in rectal cancer with high-risk characteristics, (ii) treatment with neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with low risk for local recurrence, (iii) immunotherapy with dostarlimab in patients with high-grade microsatellite instability/deficient mismatch repair (MSI-high/dMMR) rectal cancer, and (iv) use of organ-preservation treatment concepts. The availability of several evidence-based treatment options requires intensive discussions within the multidisciplinary team and comprehensive patient information about treatment goals, options, and risks of the various treatment approaches. | ||
