| Zusammenfassung: | Massive farmers’ protests swept Germany in 2024, triggering debates on the relationship between agrarian capitalism and the climate crisis. Based on protest surveys and data from the organizations involved, we analyze two coalitions: a conservative coalition, driven by political resentment, rallied against cuts to diesel subsidies for farmers, while a transformational coalition of environmentalist and peasants demands a socio-ecological agriculture. Our findings show common feelings of distributive injustice, different attitudes towards climate crisis and environmentalism, and, within the conservative coalition, distrust in democratic institutions. Finally, we discuss the challenges of progressive agrarian struggles in contexts of right-wing populism and climate crisis. |
