Precision measurement of the ฮž0๐‘ baryon lifetime

A sample of ๐‘โข๐‘ collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fbโˆ’1 and collected by the LHCb experiment during LHC Run 2, is used to measure the ratio of the lifetime of the ฮž0๐‘ baryon to that of the ฮ›0๐‘ baryon, ๐‘Ÿ๐œโ‰ก๐œฮž0๐‘/๐œฮ›0๐‘. Description
Summary:A sample of ๐‘โข๐‘ collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fbโˆ’1 and collected by the LHCb experiment during LHC Run 2, is used to measure the ratio of the lifetime of the ฮž0๐‘ baryon to that of the ฮ›0๐‘ baryon, ๐‘Ÿ๐œโ‰ก๐œฮž0๐‘/๐œฮ›0๐‘. The value ๐‘ŸRun 2๐œ =1.004 ยฑ0.009 ยฑ0.006 is obtained, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This value is averaged with the corresponding value from Run 1 to obtain ๐‘Ÿ๐œ =1.004 ยฑ0.008 ยฑ0.005. Multiplying by the known value of the ฮ›0๐‘ lifetime yields ๐œฮž0๐‘=1.475ยฑ0.012ยฑ0.008ยฑ0.009 ps, where the last uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of the ฮ›0๐‘ lifetime. This measurement improves the precision of the current world average of the ฮž0๐‘ lifetime by about a factor of two, and is in good agreement with the most recent theoretical predictions.
