Im Fokus steht das Problem des hohen Leistungsdrucks auf taiwanesische Schüler und Studenten, das trotz Reformen im Kern nicht gelöst werden konnte. Die Arbeit weist nach, dass die Ursache hierfür in der traditionellen elitären Leistungsideologie zu suchen ist, die nach wie vor das Denken und Handeln der Entscheidungsträger im Bildungswesen, aber auch der taiwanesischen Bevölkerung bestimmt. Sie dient auf der einen Seite zur Rechtfertigung der ungerechten Verteilung von Bildungsressourcen, verhindert auf der anderen aber, dass neue Wege wie die Destandardisierung von Schulbüchern oder das Programm „Multi-Opportunities for School / College Entrance“, das die herkömmlichen Aufnahmeprüfungen ersetzen sollte, in der Bevölkerung angenommen werden. Die Arbeit konzentriert sich auf die Analyse der Grundproblematik und ihrer Ursachen und versucht hierdurch, einen Beitrag zur umstrittenen und noch nicht abgeschlossenen Bildungsreform in Taiwan zu leisten. | ||
| 520 | |a This study deals with Taiwanese educational history and tendencies starting with the Chinese Emperors and leading up to current ambitions in educational reform. The author focuses on performance pressure among Taiwanese pupils and students, a key problem in Taiwanese education, ever since, that has not been solved in spite of large-scale reforms of the educational framework within the last decades. As the study shows, roots of this problem are to be found in traditional elite notions of performance and rewarding of performance, which guided both educational decision makers and the Taiwanese society in the past and still continues to do so in present days. For the former, it serves to justify an unfair distribution of educational resources, for the latter, it causes hesitation in welcoming new educational alternatives like de-standardized school books or the so called “Multi-Opportunities for School / College Entrance”-program, which was introduced to substitute traditional exams and open up school and college entrance to wider ranges of society. The study concentrates on a thorough analysis of key problems and their historic roots and thus tries to make a contribution to current discussions in educational reform movement in Taiwan. | ||
