Trapping ions of hydrogen-like uranium: the HITRAP project at GSI
We present the currently planned layout for the HITRAP facility, which is now under construction at GSI. The new facility is intended to decelerate ions up to A/q⩽3 from 4MeV/u down to 6keV/u by a combination of new IH and RFQ structures operating as decelerators. Finally, cryogenic temperatures wil...

| Summary: | We present the currently planned layout for the HITRAP facility, which is now under construction at GSI. The new facility is intended to decelerate ions up to A/q⩽3 from 4MeV/u down to 6keV/u by a combination of new IH and RFQ structures operating as decelerators. Finally, cryogenic temperatures will be reached by subsequent electron cooling and resistive cooling. A total of 105 ions/pulse is expected at a repetition rate of 0.1Hz. Possible experiments range from precision spectroscopy of one single ion in a trap to collision experiments with slow highly charged ions in a reaction microscope or at surfaces. |
