Description
Summary:The relationship between allergy and middle ear inflammation has been subject to scientific discussion for decades. Even though known as one of the main risk factors, the role of allergy in the development of middle ear inflammation has not been thoroughly investigated. The increasingly accepted knowledge of the middle ear as an integral part of respiratory tract and advancing diagnostic possibilities on cell biology have led to a better understanding of pathophysiological correlations. Nevertheless, there is uncertainty about pathogenesis and adequate treatment strategies. This article focuses on the current data situation on association between allergic rhinitis/rhinoconjunctivitis and middle ear diseases.
