Piece by piece: Hydrazides at zirconium centers undergo facile NN bond cleavage and react as equivalents for metallanitrenes, thus allowing the atom-by-atom assembly of bridging dinitridosulfate(IV) and dinitridoselenate(IV) ligands (see scheme; TBS=tBuMe2Si).
