A zirconium hydrazide as a synthon for a metallanitrene equivalent: atom-by-atom assembly of (EN2)2- units (E=S, Se) by chalcogen-atom transfer in the coordination sphere of a transition metal

Piece by piece: Hydrazides at zirconium centers undergo facile NN bond cleavage and react as equivalents for metallanitrenes, thus allowing the atom-by-atom assembly of bridging dinitridosulfate(IV) and dinitridoselenate(IV) ligands (see scheme; TBS=tBuMe2Si).
