Résumé:Purpose This survey assessed variations in pediatric colorectal surgery training across European countries and centers, exploring contributing factors. Methods A 28-item questionnaire created by the Trainees of European Pediatric Surgery (TEPS) assessed demographics, hospital type, training level, operative and non-operative involvement, training perceptions, and obstacles. It was distributed via TEPS/EUPSA mailing lists and at the 2024 EUPSA Congress. Anonymous responses collected between 29/11/2023 and 29/07/2024 were analyzed. Results 264 participants from 60 countries (79.5% European) responded; 224 completed the whole survey. Female participants rated their training lower than males (mean 3.0/5 vs. 3.5/5, p < 0.001). Obstacles were reported by 83% of females and 69% of males, mainly low caseload and restriction of colorectal cases to consultants. Surgical involvement increased with training level (p < 0.001) and correlated weakly with caseload (p = 0.003), but not with colorectal center status or gender. Training satisfaction correlated positively with caseload, surgical and non-operative colorectal engagement, and working in a colorectal center. Among respondents, 41% planned colorectal subspecialization. Only 10% routinely used simulation models. Conclusion Many trainees and young pediatric surgeons face obstacles during colorectal training. Larger and designated colorectal centers appear to offer better experiences, and a perceived gender gap persists in pediatric colorectal surgery training.
